We understand there is no typical client and no typical
portfolio. Each domicile has its own regulations, each
client its own set of investment guidelines. Each client
has a different level of investment knowledge and each
firm has a different specific business objective. We
strive to know everything we can about these issues,
serving as a de facto extension of each client's investment
department.
Opus Investment Management believes that service and
communication are critical to investment success. The
more we know about our clients and the more our clients
know about our work, the better we are able to meet
their investment goals.
Many of our clients tell us that Opus' ability
to share knowledge effectively is one of the things
they value most about working with us; that our responsiveness
strengthens the relationship.
We stay in constant contact with clients through seminars,
face-to-face meetings and written communications. Our
communications with clients are distinguished by:
The involvement of Opus' entire organization—investment
professionals, actuaries, tax specialists and legal
counsel—in the process of client service and
support
Comprehensive initial meetings with the portfolio
manager to define investment and compliance guidelines
Direct access to portfolio managers throughout
the relationship
Comprehensive reports listing all securities and
transactions
Quarterly reports providing information on investment
results, strategies, portfolio structure and economic
data
Semi-annual meetings during the first year, with
meetings thereafter defined by specific client requirements
Dedication to serving as a resource for areas beyond
specific assignments
Client reports are fully customizable – both
content/format and delivery method – to meet
each client's needs. Our fully integrated portfolio
trading, accounting, and client reporting system allows
us to custom design reports to meet each client's specific
needs.
On a quarterly basis clients receive the following
reports:
Our economic and market outlook
Summary of markets and how the portfolio is positioned
based on our economic and market outlook
Portfolio structure data (maturity, quality, duration
versus the benchmark, sector weightings versus the
benchmark)
Transaction listings
Investment results for the most recent periods
As part of our comprehensive client reporting
services to insurance companies, and for those clients
who elect to utilize such services, we provide full
Schedule D reporting including quarterly and annual
Schedule D, Supplements to Schedule DA, Summary by
Country, Verification between Years and Schedule D-
Part 1A – Sections 1 & 2. SVO ratings
information is a standard element of the Schedule D
reporting package provided to each client. We
use PAM in conjunction with Wings software to produce
the above reports. This software also enables
us to provide our clients with the above data in the NAIC required format.
Our compliance department also handles
the filing of Securities Acquisition Reports with the
NAIC‘s Securities Valuation Office.
We provide our clients daily access to
their portfolios via a secure Internet website. Any
of the reports can be emailed as an attachment PDF
or posted to our secure website for client access.
Our trading process reflects an aggressive
approach on behalf of our clients.
Opus Investment Management's portfolio
managers are responsible for all trading activities;
a long-standing practice we feel promotes a better
feel of the trading market. This practice ensures
that portfolio managers are always aware of how Wall
Street is approaching the pricing of a security so
that they can be active advocates in achieving
best execution for client portfolios. Support
is provided by trading assistants who handle all administrative
functions. Portfolio transactions are placed
where the client can obtain the most favorable combination
of price and execution services. Opus adheres
to the Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional
Conduct of the CFA Institute.
